Poker has quite a number of variations which makes it quite hard for anyone to be able to be knowledgeable let alone master all of the poker variants in existence. The best thing to do is to be familiar with the poker rules of the most played variants so that one can always join in most of the poker games that one will encounter.
One of the most played variant is five-card draw. The poker rules for the variant are fairly simple. In the game, each player is dealt with five faced down cards and then each of players, checks, bets or raises starting with the player left of the dealer.
This first round of betting is followed by a process of discarding and replacing the cards that are in the hands of the player. The process starts with the first player on the dealer's left and each player has the opportunity to discard one up to five cards and receive replacements from the dealer. After this process, there will be final round of betting followed by the showdown to determine the winner of the pot.
Next on the list will be the poker rules for seven-card stud. Seven-stud starts with three cards being dealt to each player with two of cards dealt face down and one face up. Depending on the rules, the one with either the highest or the lowest face up card will start the first betting round of the game. After that first round, a fourth face up card will be dealt to each player after which a second round of betting will follow. Two more cards will be dealt face up with a round of betting after each. A seventh card will then be dealt face down which will be followed by a final round of betting. The showdown will then commence to determine the winner.
The poker rules for hold 'em poker can be seen as a variation of the poker rules for seven card stud. In hold 'em, two face down cards are dealt to each player at the beginning of the game. Two cards will be dealt face up at the center of the table. These two cards are the first of the five community cards that will be dealt over the whole course of the game. They can be used in conjunction with the two faced down cards deal to each player to form the highest possible hand at the table. As with all poker rules, the rounds of dealing are interspersed with rounds of betting.
These poker rules can be easily remembered since they have many similarities since all of them are just variations of the same card game. Taking them to heart will let one play in most poker games that are available anytime, anywhere.
